Many small changes which however did not convince most users, who found themselves unsettled by the sudden change. Don’t worry, there’s an easy way to bring Gmail back to its previous design.

Without saying anything to anyone, in recent days Google has changed the design of Gmail, its service dedicated to emails. The smoother shapes of the fonts and the selectable options stand out on the eye. The Chat, Meet, and Space sections are now on the left, highlighted with icons. Many small changes which however did not convince most users, who found themselves unsettled by the sudden change. The Mashable portal collected some reviews posted on the net.

The main criticism addressed to Google is to have made such a change without real need and without warning its users. “Immediately, I shivered, because it feels like a change without reason or warning. It’s harder to read and it made me feel old straight away,” Kristy Puchko wrote on a Slack channel. But not somewhat similar comments. “The new Gmail looks like someone’s Pinterest board with a white sofa and a round lucite coffee table. Is this my style? No, but like all design changes, I immediately shiver (why is it so hard to scan?!) and will give myself a week to get used to it. Annie Colbert goes even further by writing: “The new Gmail looks like someone’s Pinterest board with a white sofa and a round lucite coffee table. Is this my style? No, but like all design changes, I immediately shiver (why is it so hard to scan?!) and will give myself a week to get used to it. »

Don’t worry though: there’s an easy way to bring Gmail back to its previous design and regain a sense of familiarity. It’s very simple, because you just have to click on the gear icon located at the top right of the screen to be able to select “Return to the original view“. It’s the first option in the quick settings menu. Once the request is sent, Google will want to know the reasons for this choice, in order to understand the most widespread trends among its users. However, this is not mandatory: you can restore the design of Gmail even without sending an SMS containing your opinion. However, it is with the silence of the users that the companies carry out similar initiatives, then risk obtaining an opposite effect compared to that envisaged.
