How to update Windows 10 to Windows 11?

It’s the big day! Microsoft has just released the final version of its new operating system, namely Windows 11 . The update is free for all Windows 10 users who have an eligible PC. If this is your case, you can now install Windows 11 on your PC. To do this, several methods are available to you. In this article, we will see together how to download and install Windows 11 on your PC . Follow the leader !

Windows 11 was officially released today, Tuesday October 5, 2021. However, as Microsoft announced last August, Windows 11 will be rolled out gradually until 2022 . As a result, you may not be offered an upgrade to Windows 11 today through Windows Update.

This is for example the case on my Windows 10 PC. When I check for updates via Windows Update, I get the following message:

” This PC can run Windows 11. […] The specific timing of when it will be available may vary as we prepare it for you .”

Before proceeding with the installation of Windows 11, you must verify that your PC is compatible. The minimum system requirements for Microsoft’s new operating system are as follows:

  • Processor : 1 gigahertz (GHz) or more, with at least 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip (SoC).
  • Memory : 4 GB of RAM
  • Storage : 64 GB or more storage device
  • System Firmware : UEFI Compliant Secure Boot.
  • TPM : Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.
  • Graphics card : compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver.
  • Display : High definition screen (720p) with a diagonal greater than 9 inches, 8 bits per color channel.
  • Internet connection : Microsoft account and Internet connectivity required for Windows 11 Home setup.
  • Upgrade to Windows 11 : Your device must be on Windows 10, version 2004 or later, to upgrade.

If your Windows 10 PC is compatible with Windows 11, you can download Microsoft’s installation assistant to upgrade for free. This is arguably the easiest method for any user. Here is how to do it.

1. Go to the Windows 11 download page .

2. Under “ Windows 11 Setup Wizard ”, click the “ Download ” button .

3. Then run the Windows11InstallationAssistant.exe file to start the Windows 11 installation wizard.

4. Go for downloading and installing Windows 11. Start by accepting the terms of the license agreement. To do this, click on the ” Accept and install ” button .

5. Then wait a few minutes for Windows 11 to download.

6.  The Windows 11 installation wizard will then verify the download. Again, you have to be patient.

7. Next, the installation of Windows 11 on your PC will begin.

8. Then you will be prompted to restart your PC to finish installing Windows 11. Save your work, then click “ Restart now ”.

To upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11, follow the few steps below.

1. First, you need to download Windows 11 ISO image from Microsoft official site. To do this, under ” Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) Download “, select ” Windows 11 ” from the drop-down menu, and then click the ” Download ” button .

2. Then select “ French ” from the drop-down menu.

3. Finally, click the “ 64-bit Download ” button to download the Windows 11 ISO image.

4. Once the ISO image is downloaded, right click on the file and click “ Mount ” from the context menu.

3. Next, double-click on the setup.exe file to launch the Windows 11 installation wizard.

4. To install Windows 11 on your Windows 10 PC, you are warned that the installer will go online to get updates, drivers, and optional features. You can change the way the installer downloads updates (optional) and then click the ” Next ” button .

5. Accept the notices and terms of the license agreement that apply to install Windows 11 by clicking “ Agree ”.

7. Save and close your files before installing Windows 11 on your Windows 10 PC.
