If you’re the type of person who spends their life taking photos or videos with their iPhone and absolutely doesn’t trust a cloud service (like iCloud) to keep them safe, you probably have a slightly complex backup process that requires using a computer.
Today, I propose to make it a little simpler thanks to the Copy That Mobile app.
This free app allows you to connect your iPhone or iPad to an external drive and copy selected photos and videos onto it. As you may have guessed, you will need an external drive and a cable (or an adapter) that allows you to connect your iPhone or iPad to the external drive from your Lightning port.

This both frees up space on your mobile device and also provides a local copy in case of a problem. And like that, there’s no need to pay for additional storage on iCloud or Dropbox.
Copy That Mobile also has “smart” copy functions that allow you, for example, to exclude screenshots and silly selfies you take all day. This app is free, and the paid version simply offers a file verification feature before deleting them from your device. If you stay on the free app, you’ll need to verify the files yourself before manually deleting the copied photos on the external drive.
